Proper scene documentation is a vital part of any collision investigation. Most scene evidence is time sensitive and should be documented as soon after the collision as possible. At S.C.&R.S. we use a Sokkia Total Station or DJI Phantom drone in order to achieve this. Once the evidence is documented this way the "scene" is stored as long

At S.C.&R.S. we use a Sokkia Total Station or DJI Phantom drone in order to achieve this. Once the evidence is documented this way the "scene" is stored as long as desired and can be re-visited for investigation without returning to the location of the collision.

This allows scene documentation in 3D resulting in millions of measurable points with their own unique coordinates. The result is a scene with photographic quality, to include any available evidentiary markings, that represents the scene terrain in far greater detail than that of a total station. This technology is also useful in generating scale models of vehicles and objects giving excellent visual representation of damage or view obstructions in a manner that is more easily understood than photographs.

Our digital scene work is performed utilizing Faro Zone 3D Advanced. This program gives the ability to utilize point clouds comprised of millions of measurable points allowing full three dimensional view. Models, both vehicular and human, can be placed into the scene and animated to match the collision data specific to the investigation.

This program gives the ability to utilize point clouds comprised of millions of measurable points allowing full three dimensional view. Models, both vehicular and human, can be placed into the scene and animated to match the collision data specific to the investigation. The result is a deliverable product that is immersive and allows viewers to observe the collision as it occurred in high detail, including the timing of traffic signal lights. These animations can be viewed from any perspective, including that of the witness or vehicle operators.
